Shannon came about her love for tech, honestly. Growing up with a dad who was a computer programmer, they got their first computer in the early 1980’s and Shannon learned how to program in BASIC. She soon switched over to Apple computers and loved playing around and writing programs for friends.
After college, Shannon started working in television and radio broadcasting. In 1994, a co-worker at the TV station showed her how to find the code for websites to create her own, and a love for code was born. In the late 1990’s, she started creating her own websites for fun and ran a family website for many years, to hone her skills. Later, she found WordPress and started a blog to learn how to use the interface and load themes.
In 2014, Shannon left her career in television to pursue web development full time. She packed her bags and 23-year-old cat and moved 4 hours away to attend a web development bootcamp for three months. She, ultimately, was hired by an agency to make WordPress sites. Within a year, she was working remotely and creating WordPress and Squarespace sites, but still knew something was missing. After leaving the agency to freelance, she stumbled upon WP Rockstar and GeekPack® and instantly knew that she wanted to be a part of the amazing community and share her years of knowledge to empower other women to embrace tech.
